I’m pretty sure it’s every parents worst nightmare to hear the words “Can I play out with my friends?” from their pre-teen child…
I mean, so many thoughts rush through your head: Do they know how to cross the road safely? Would they talk to a stranger? Would they be lured into someone’s house by sweets? Where would they stray off to? Can I trust them? Who are they playing with? Are there bullies around?
Well, the list goes on and on and on… as do the worries of parenthood!
So, that is exactly why Jamie, over at Bestie, decided to create The Bestie!
The Bestie GPS watch is the world’s smallest real-time mobile-connected GPS tracking device.
Designed, developed, and geared to kids age 3 and up, parents can now enjoy true peace of mind with regard to their children’s safety. With real-time pin-point tracking, breadcrumb trail logging, and smart location alerts, parents can track their children’s whereabouts directly from the Bestie Babycaringii Family smartphone companion app. The Bestie can be used as a phone independently. It has a Glow in the dark Gel strap which the kids love. The Bestie GPS Watch for kids is not only easy on the eye and snug on the wrist, but its durable, water resistant shell will also withstand even the heaviest of play. With a panic feature that can be easily triggered in an emergency, extended battery life of up to 30 hours between charges (actual battery time will vary on usage), and automated low battery alerts to the parent’s smartphone, both you and your child will benefit from peace of mind and freedom of play throughout the day.
Family Location Check current or historic locations of family members. Broadcast a check-in to other family members when you have arrived at your destination via geofencing.
It includes a FREE EE Sim Card with no contact needed to operate . £10 credit will last for 3 months. Normal call charges apply outside of that.
I was lucky enough to interview The Bestie creator recently and love his passion for creating peace of mind for parents and safety for children! Here’s what he had to say:
What inspired you originally to create the Bestie? I have been in sales since I was 16 I started selling windows and doors for a well known company at 16, then went to Uni to do law while at uni I stared selling mobile phones, I then left uni early at the age of 20 to do that full time as I was making more money. My sales career was chequered to say the least it lasted 11 years with varying degrees of success and many, many roles. It was the amount of roles the people and lessons that I learnt on the way that gave me the keys to the doors that I needed to set up the Bestie. My last real sales role was selling vehicle tracking software and as I have 10 year old daughter that is continually more independent she was the inspiration for creating the Bestie.
Why do you feel it’s so unique to the market?
We are completely unique in the market because of the level of service we offer. There is no other compmay out there in the U.K Or Europe that send there GPS watches out pre loaded and already set up with UK customer service 7 days a week. Our Bestie also has listen in technology and remote photo capture these are both very important safety features.
Who is the Bestie best suited to?
The bestie is best suited to children at the age of 4 up to 16. In the case of the 4 year old it serves as a great device for the child to wear when he/she goes to nursery or with a child minder the listen in technology is especially good for any concerns a parent may have.
What uses does the Bestie have?
The Bestie has so many uses, Firstly its a phone that works with its own SIM card so eliminates the need for an expensive iPhone to be taken out that can be lost, stolen, screen smashed used for video billing etc ( plus they are in them all the time at home so it does them good not to have them when they are with friends) Secondly it’s a tracker that the parent can track using they’re mobile phone, so for the parent it gives amazing peace of mind. It also has geofencing technology so you can draw a virtual fence around say a park and if the child leaves that area it will alert you. Furthermore should you receive an alert the listen in technology will allow you to listen in to what’s actually happening as to stop unneeded panic. As the child may just be messing around with friends rather than the worse case.
Can we expect updates and more designs in the near future?
We are constantly updating the application and all customers receive these updates. We have new colours coming with some really cool designs
How did EE get on board? I contacted EE through my contacts selling mobile phones and they were more than happy to support us
Will you be branching out to other network providers? We can offer the Bestie in other networks all we ask is that the customer tell us upon purchase which network they would like to use if it’s possible we will them activate the Bestie on that network for them.
Where would you like to see the Bestie brand in a year from now?
We have big plans for Bestie and would like to incorporate the tracking element in to clothing with Bestie Wearables such as Charging Wallets, charging Jacket, tracking trainers and so on
Do you have any advice for parents and guardians?
Get your child to understand that if they wear the Bestie they will have more chance independence soon your child will be putting they’re Bestie on as they would they’re shoes 👍
Do you have any advice for young budding entrepreneurs? Forget the past remember the lesson and keep going forward. Remind yourself that you can achieve what ever you want all you need to do is find it.
So, if there’s one thing that you you really NEED to put under your Christmas tree this year it most definitely has to be the Bestie for your little angel!
Safety, style and support – surely the best Christmas present ever?
